Fran Brown

Electrical Engineer
BEng, MIET

Fran studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology at Swansea University and graduated in 2017. She joined E3 in the summer of 2020 having successfully completed a graduate programme with a Bristol based firm of building services engineers, where she won an IPD  award for outstanding work. Following a career break in 2023 Fran rejoined E3 in July 2024.

Fran’s experience includes electrical design for projects in the education, commercial, residential and leisure sectors. She is skilled in using Revit and AutoCAD to produce drawings, plans and schematics for lighting, small power provisions, fire and security systems. Fran also uses Dialux and Dialux Evo to carry out lighting and electrical load calculations for a range building types.

Fran is interested in sustainable design principles in engineering and developing designs that minimise the impact on the environment.

She has recent experience of external lighting design, working on several projects including buildings within sensitive bat habitat areas and performing calculations to assess and mitigate light spill, whilst achieving safe levels of light for the building users.  She uses Dialux to create models showing the impact of light spill from outside and inside buildings on local ecology, using a combination of lux plots and contours to demonstrate the minimal light spill for differing conditions.
