Climate Emergency
E3 are proud signatories of the Building Services Engineers Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency. Sustainable design has always been at the core of E3’s approach, and the urgent need to reduce the impact of the built environment on the natural world becomes more acute with every year. As signatories our aim is to promote sustainable design ambition for all our projects, and actively share best practice amongst our team, clients and collaborators.
Our experience with Passivhaus projects, starting with the first certified schools in the UK in 2011, means that low energy design is central to our design approach. We are experienced with designing building services for Passivhaus certified buildings, and we have certified Passivhaus Designers within our team. We use Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) software for analysis of a building’s operational energy consumption against Passivhaus metrics. We additionally have extensive capability using IES Virtual Environment for daylight, thermal, and energy analysis of buildings.
Several of our projects have been recognised with awards for their sustainable credentials including the CIBSE Building Performance Awards, RIBA Regional and National Awards, and Passivhaus Trust Awards. We have delivered several BREEAM assessed building including certified Excellent and Outstanding projects.
We promote a rapid shift to Net Zero Carbon Buildings, as defined by the Low Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) and UK Green Building Council (UKGBC). This includes consideration of embodied carbon in construction and use, as well as operational energy. This requires a collaborative approach amongst the whole design team.
Our related services include:
- Operational energy assessments using CIBSE TM54
- Energy statements to support planning applications
- Decarbonisation assessments for existing buildings
- Passivhaus design
- Renewable energy options appraisals
- Building services design for BREEAM assessed projects
