GreenAcres Woodland Burials operates a number of woodland burial parks in the UK and is looking to expand nationally. The aim of the project was to develop a new template design for the future sites, with the ambition of rolling out a number of projects. A log boiler was selected as the most appropriate heating plant as the client actively manages the woodland on each site with logs a surplus resource.
E3 decided to incorporate the heating plant into the main building to eliminate the considerable heat loss from buried pipework from a remote plant room, which is the approach for their existing sites. The design of the building itself encompasses low energy principles throughout, with extensive use of natural ventilation, solar shading and overnight passive ventilation. There are photovoltaic panels incorporated into the roof of the remote maintenance building to further reduce carbon emissions.
