This multiple award winning project was a new art, drama, and design technology building for West Buckland School in Devon.

The building is a highly insulated timber framed structure with glue laminated beams and columns and solid timber walls and floor structure. Following a detailed appraisal of suitable renewable energy technologies for the main heating plant, it was decided to install a wood pellet boiler in the basement plant room. It includes a displacement ventilation system to the studio theatre space. The classrooms are heated with an underfloor heating system and natural ventilation is automatically controlled. The lighting throughout the day is controlled in response to daylight and is switched off when staff and students are absent.
