This scheme is a new build, naturally ventilated, two class entry primary school.
During the design stage we developed a detailed thermal model using IES software to optimise the daylighting to the classrooms. We explored methods of introducing thermal mass to a timber framed building, through the use of heavyweight boarding to timber stud walls. The underfloor heating system uses a biomass boiler as the primary heat source with condensing gas fired boilers as back up. The natural ventilation strategy includes automatically controlled high level windows.
The building has achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” rating. It has won several awards including the prestigious RIBA Sorrell Schools Award 2010.
