The design for Roe Green Junior School in Kingsbury, was the result of a client brief for a building that demonstrates zero carbon thinking and ‘makes visible’ sustainable construction. The design and construction process involved the school children, allowing them to question the Design Consultants, Planners and the Builders.
Using solid timber prefabricated panels, wood fibre insulation, natural daylight and natural ventilation the building is a breathable, natural learning environment. Named ‘Evergreen’ through a school wide naming competition, the building achieved an A13 EPC carbon rating in conjunction with the high levels of embodied carbon, should achieve a zero carbon footprint for its anticipated life time.
