A new, zero carbon, Primary School for the North West Bicester Exemplar Eco Town. The challenging brief requires the building to be truly zero carbon as measured in use, at the end of the first year of occupation.
The Zero Carbon strategy includes connecting the building to the site-wide district heating system, and offsetting the resulting carbon emissions of the building using a roof mounted PV array. The design also targets a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The building is a timber framed construction, with key spaces including exposed cross laminated timber walls including the hall. All classrooms are provided with cross ventilation using either clerestory glazing or roof lights.
The scheme has been procured as a Design and Build, with the design team novated to the main contractor part way through the design process.
