A new rehoming centre for the Dogs Trust near Loughborough. Sustainability was at the heart of the design approach, with the main building achieving a zero carbon EPC and “Outstanding” for the design stage BREEAM assessment.
E3 carried out a review of the design of the Trust’s existing rehoming centres to improve the design approach with a view to radically reducing energy consumption, through carefully zoned heat recovery mechanical ventilation, automatic lighting controls with daylight linking where appropriate, and localised water heaters. The heating system uses a wood pellet boiler, and there is a large ground mounted PV array.
