The Bicester Eco Business Centre forms part of the northwest Bicester Eco Town exemplar site, which is currently under construction. Designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding rating, be zero carbon and to Passivhaus Plus standard, the three-storey building accommodates 125 workplaces for local and start-up businesses.
E3’s environmental strategy for the building minimises energy consumption through passive means, with a highly insulated and airtight façade, and glazing optimised for natural daylight, passive solar gain and natural ventilation. A system of vertical external shading fins provides solar shading in summer. Heat recovery mechanical ventilation will provide clean, optimised air supply, supplemented by natural ventilation in the summer. Renewable energy strategies include the use of PV panels and heat from a local district heating system.
The Centre is the first non-domestic Passivhaus Plus building in the UK.
