The existing visitor centre at Coed y Brenin was built in 2005 and has proved to be hugely popular, in particular for mountain biking. As a result the facilities are to be nearly doubled in size to provide additional learning and retail accommodation. The remote site has incoming mains electricity, but has independent water and sewage treatment services. A biomass boiler is the primary heating source for the existing building which is being extended to serve both buildings. The scheme has achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” for the design-stage assessment. Completed summer 2013.
